2A/3A Lamella Replacement

Fernandina Beach, FL

Industry: General Industrial

Project Scope

CR Meyer was contracted by the equipment manufacturer to remove the existing lamellas and install the newly designed equipment. This scope included new steam chests, entrainment separators, and associated piping. The new lamellas showed up in halves and were preassembled in the laydown area prior to the outage utilizing CRM gantries. The lamellas weighed 50,000 lbs. when assembled. A 450 Ton crane with a pick radius of 70’ was used to remove / install the lamellas.

A challenge with the project was that the 2A evaporator was inoperable. This caused the mill to shut down the unit early which created a large amount of liquor to solidify inside the vessel. As a result, additional shifts were required to jackhammer, clean, and replan the demolition of the existing lamellas.

I want to send a sincere thank you to all CR Meyer’s people for the success of the project. The craftsmen that were brought in by CR Meyer were very skilled in their respective crafts, had excellent work ethics and all worked towards a common goal.
